The old Reven Interactive website. Focused on software and a community forum for discussing HTPC/PVRs. Technologies used: AJAX, ASP.Net, Search Engine Optimisation(SEO), jQuery, Twitter.
The primary goal of the old Reven Interactive website was to support xmlTVNZ. xmlTVNZ allowed users to download Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) data and use it in their Personal Video Recorder (PVR) software of choice, for example in Windows Media Center or GB-PVR.
There was a active forum community which discussed mostly EPG in New Zealand, but also all aspects of Home Theatre PCs (HTPC) and it was a great source for help for newbies to HTPCs.
Sadly Sky Television forced us to take down xmlTVNZ, which was completely legal, we just didn’t have the resources to fight Sky, and I was weeks away from getting married. xmlTVNZ was basically a language interpreter that used a script language file (xml file) to run.
xmlTVNZ was alive for around 7 years, and was the oldest source of EPG in New Zealand for the HTPC community.
The site also focused on plugin development for GB-PVR, which including 3 of the most popular plugins: “My Videos”, “My Music” and “My Pictures”.
